Marc Almond (полное имя Peter Mark Sinclair Almond) родился 9 июля 1957 года в Southport, Lancashire, England.
Стал известен миру в составе поп-дуэта Soft Cell, после распада которого в 1984 году и недолгого пребывания во главе группы Marc And The Mambas он начал сольную карьеру.
Первый альбом «Vermin In Ermine» оказался настолько неудачным, что прежняя фирма исполнителя Phonogram Records немедленно расторгла с ним контракт. Однако следующий диск, выпущенный на филиале Virgin Records, - Some Bizzare, получился весьма сильным и подтвердил высокую репутацию певца.
Незадолго до выхода «Stories Of Johnny» Алмонд совместно с Bronski Beat записал сингл «I Feel Love (Medley)» - это был своего рода коктейль из двух хит-синглов Донны Саммер «I Feel Love» и «Love To Love You Baby» и композиции Джона Лейтона «Jonny Remember Me». Вещь имела успех, не последнюю роль в котором сыграл партнер Алмонда по дуэту Джимми Соммервилл.
Вновь провальным оказался альбом «Mother Fist And Her Five Daughters», и вокалист едва избежал финансового краха, своевременно выпустив сборник «Singles». Алмонд перешел под крыло фирмы Parlophone, руководство которой пригласило для участия в записи сингла «Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart» первого исполнителя этой вещи американского певца Джина Питни. Сингл возглавил хит-парад Великобритании и в значительной мере предопределил успех альбома «The Stars We Are», в который входила композиция.
В 1989 и 1990 годах оба альбома Алмонда - подборка вещей Жака Бреля «Jacques» и «Enchanted», который можно считать попыткой новыми средствами воссоздать стиль неоромантизм - попали в хит-парад США. Сильное продюсирование и задействование в инструментарии фламенко-гитары и скрипок свидетельствовало о том, что исполнитель меняет музыкальную ориентацию. Это подтвердила оригинальная авторская версия песни Дэвида МакУильямса «The Days Of Pearly Spencer», в которой прослеживается попытка принципиально нового подхода к поп-соул...
