When I received this show in a trade several years ago, it came labeled "European Jeremy Steig Quartet". When you look at the line-up, this is "Association P.C. + Jeremy Steig" minus Toto Blanke. Since I could not find anything about the "European Jeremy Steig Quartet" all over the internet, I decided to present this as "Association P.C."
As you can read in the extended liner notes of the CD release of "Mama Kuku" Jeremy Steig and the musicians of Association P.C. first met at the "Jazz Now!" festival held in Munich during the Olympic Summer Games 1972. It was there that they decided to work together. The first joint tour in the summer of 1973 produced the recordings that were released as "Mama Kuku". More tours followed, the last (together with Jeremy Steig) being a big tour in Asia and Northern Africa which was promoted by the Goethe-Institut, Germany’s cultural institute.
According to Pierre Courbois, he and Toto Blanke were the only constant members of the band. Therefore you may argue without Toto Blanke it's not Association P.C. I believe that for some reason he just could not make it to the show. Since the radio company had made arrangements for recording and broadcasting, maybe the date could not be cancelled and the concert had to happen without him. And honestly, as much as I wished Toto Blanke had been there since there are not that many recordings with him, the result is not bad anyway, don't you think so?
