================================
Recording:
Sessions for the album started in early 1972, with recording taking place at three Kingston, Jamaica studios, all members recording inside one room: Dynamic Sound, Harry J's and Randy's. Engineer Sylvan Morris put an eight-track tape, which has the drum mixes on one track and piano and guitar together. In the winter of 1972, Marley flew back to London to present the master tapes. The deal with Island led to a dispute with CBS and Sims, to whom the band were already contracted. The case was won by the first, who received US$9,000 and two percent of royalties from the band's first six albums, and Sims received GB£5,000 and the publishing rights to the Wailers songs.
Catch a Fire, which is Jamaican patois (slang) for catching on fire, features many backing musicians, but none of those were credited in the liner notes. Muscle Shoals session guitarist Wayne Perkins, who at that time recorded a new Smith, Perkins & Smith album at the Island Studios on the Basing Street, was asked by Blackwell in the early 1972 to make overdubs for Catch a Fire in the studio below. Perkins, not knowing what reggae was, agreed with the proposal and first played the guitar solo, including the three-octave feedback, on "Concrete Jungle". After playing the lead guitar on "Stir it Up", which was later covered by Nash's band, Rabbit and the Jungles, on their I Can See Clearly Now, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, he then went back to the studio to complete his album. Rabbit Bundrick played on all songs on numerous keyboards, including on a synthesizer and a clavinet. Robbie Shakespeare played the bass on "Concrete Jungle", while organist Tyrone Downie performed on the same track as well as on "Stir it Up". Chris Karen, Francisco Willie Pep and Winston Wright served as percussionists, and the female backing singing was performed by Rita Marley and her friend Marcia Griffiths, the latter of whom was already popular in Jamaica as a solo artist and together with her husband Bob Andy released successful singles. Tommy McCook played the flute.
According to Aston Barrett, "some of the songs had been recorded before, ..., in different studios and with different musicians, but we gave them that strict timing and brought the feeling out of them more". "Baby We've Got a Date (Rock it Baby)" is similar to "Black Bitter", recorded in an earlier session.
The song's lyrics deal with political injustice towards blacks and poverty, as is the case in many of their albums. Catch a Fire is about "the current state of urban poverty", and "Slave Driver" "connects the present to past injustices". But politics are not the main theme; "Stir it Up", for example, is a love song.
Cover art:
The original 1973 vinyl release, designed by graphic artists Rod Dyer and Bob Weiner, was encased in a sleeve depicting a Zippo lighter. The sleeve functioned like a real Zippo lighter case, opening at a side hinge to reveal the record within. Only the original pressing of 20,000 had the Zippo cover, subsequent pressings had an alternative cover designed by John Bonis featuring an Esther Anderson portrait of Marley smoking a "spliff" or joint, with the album now credited to "Bob Marley and the Wailers". Copies of the record from the original pressings have since become collectors' items. The original cover art was reproduced in 2001 for the deluxe compact disc edition.

Burnin' is a reggae album by The Wailers, released in 1973. The fourth album by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer (the last before Tosh and Bunny departed for solo careers and the band became known as Bob Marley & the Wailers), Burnin′ opens with a signature song, the call to action "Get Up, Stand Up" and includes a more confrontational and militant tone than previous records, such as in another Marley standard turned into a #1 hit by Eric Clapton, "I Shot the Sheriff". The songs "Duppy Conqueror", "Small Axe", "Put It On" and "Pass It On" are re-recordings of songs previously released.
Burnin' peaked at number 151 and number 41 on the Billboard 200 and Black Albums charts respectively.
The Wailers' gold record award for Burnin' in Nine Mile, Jamaica
In 2003, the album was ranked number 319 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Singer and Rapper Lauryn Hill's album cover for her debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was inspired by the album cover of Burnin′. In 2007 the album was added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry for its historical and cultural significance.

Song writing credits:
Although the album's liner notes list multiple songwriters, including family friends and band members, all songs were written by Marley. Marley was involved in a contractual dispute with his former publishing company, Cayman music.
Vincent Ford, a childhood friend from Jamaica, was given writing credit for "No Woman, No Cry" on the 1974 album Natty Dread, as well as the songs "Crazy Baldheads" (with Marley's wife Rita), "Positive Vibration" and "Roots Rock Reggae" from the 1976 album Rastaman Vibration, along with "Inna De Red" and "Jah Bless" with Marley's son, Stephen.
Marley had not wanted his new songs to be associated with Cayman and it had been speculated, including in his obituary in The Independent, that he had put them in the names of his close friends and family members as a means of avoiding the contractual restrictions and as a way to "provide lasting help to family and close friends".
Marley's former manager Danny Sims sued to obtain royalty and ownership rights to the songs, claiming that Marley had actually written the songs but had assigned the credit to Ford to avoid meeting commitments made in prior contracts. A 1987 court decision sided with the Marley estate, which assumed full control of the songs.

Natty Dread is a 1974 reggae album by Bob Marley & The Wailers. An important transition in Marley's discography, Natty Dread was the first album released as Bob Marley & the Wailers (as opposed to The Wailers) and the first recorded without former bandmates Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. It is also the first album recorded with the I-Threes, a female vocal trio that included Bob's wife, Rita Marley, along with Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt.
Natty Dread peaked at No. 44 on Billboard's (North America) Black Albums chart, and at No. 92 on the Pop Albums chart. In 2003, the album was ranked number 181 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Exodus is the ninth studio album released by Jamaican reggae band Bob Marley and the Wailers. On 3 December 1976 an assassination attempt was made on Bob Marley’s life in which his chest was grazed and his arm was struck, but he survived. Following the attempt Marley left Jamaica and was exiled to London where Exodus was recorded. It was on 3 June 1977 that Exodus was released on Island Records. Exodus is widely considered to be the album that propelled Marley to international stardom. In 2007 Exodus was remastered and re-released for its 30th anniversary. The re-release sparked new interest in the album which many argue is one of Marley’s best works. Exodus has more tracks on Marley’s greatest hits album, Legend which is the highest selling reggae album of all time, than any of his other records.

Kaya is a roots reggae album released by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1978. The album consists of tracks recorded alongside those present on the Exodus album in 1977. The album has a very relaxed, laid back sound, lacking much of the militant quality of the Wailers lyrically and musically. They received criticism for 'going soft' as a result of the general sound of the album as well as the theme: songs primarily revolving around love, as well as marijuana. The album's release coincided with the One Love Peace Concert, heralding Marley's triumphant return to Jamaica from exodus in London. Many of the songs present on this album, as well as its sister album Exodus, are rerecorded versions of older tracks present on albums like African Herbsman. Well known songs from the album include "Is This Love" and "Satisfy My Soul". Kaya reached the top five in the UK album charts.

from wiki:
Babylon by Bus is a live album released by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1978. The tracks on this album are considered, with two exceptions, to be from the Pavillon de Paris concerts over 3 nights, 25–27 June 1977, during the Kaya Tour, though there are discrepancies in the track listing.
Like the 1973 album Catch a Fire, the first release had something of a novelty cover. The windows of the bus on the front cover were cut out, revealing part of the inner sleeve. As this was a double album, the listener had a choice of four different scenes to view through the windows.
Set list:
"Heathen", "Lively Up Yourself" and "Concrete Jungle" were not as common as the rest of the album on the tour, with 2 of the 3 more than likely played on any given night, but not always, and were only ever all played on the same night twice: at the Pinecrest Country Club in Shelton, Connecticut, 14 June and the Music Inn in Lenox, Massachusetts 18 June, which was one of the longest shows ever played by the band with 22 songs, but none were played at the Paris concerts. "Rebel Music", "Positive Vibration", "Jamming", "Exodus", "War / No More Trouble" and "Punky Reggae Party" were nearly always played at some point of each concert, though were mixed up some times with other songs like "Get Up, Stand Up", usually played with "Punky Reggae Party", which isn't on this album though was also played most nights. The song "Is This Love" was also not common on this tour, though was played in Paris. The track "Kinky Reggae" wasn't played on the Kaya tour and in fact hadn't been played since the 1976 Rastaman Vibration tour, so it's unclear which concert this version is from.

Survival is a roots reggae album by Bob Marley & The Wailers released in 1979.
Survival is an album with an outwardly militant theme. Some speculate that this was due in part to criticism Marley received for the laid-back, ganja-soaked atmosphere of his previous release, "Kaya", which seemed to sidetrack the urgency of his message. In the song "Africa Unite", Marley proclaims Pan-African solidarity. The song "Zimbabwe" is a hymn dedicated to later-independent Rhodesia. The song was performed at Zimbabwe's Independence Celebration in 1980, just after the official declaration of Zimbabwe's independence. "Zimbabwe" is seen as an unofficial national song.
Survival was originally to be called Black Survival to underscore the urgency of African unity, but the name was shortened to prevent misinterpretations of the album's theme. Marley originally planned to release Survival as the first part of a trilogy, followed by Uprising in 1980 and Confrontation in 1983.
In South Africa the album was partly censored by the then white apartheid government.
The album's front cover depicts 48 African flags, 14 of which are now obsolete, and the flag of Papua New Guinea.

Uprising is a 1980 reggae album by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Marley died the following year, and Uprising was thus the final studio album released during his lifetime. This album is one of Marley's most directly religious, with nearly every song addressing his Rastafarian beliefs, culminating in the acoustic folk classic, "Redemption Song".
Uprising peaked at #41 on Billboard's (North America) Black Albums chart, and #45 on the Pop Albums chart. "Could You Be Loved" was #6 and #56 respectively on the Club Play Singles and Black Singles charts. The album fared better in the UK where it was a top ten hit along with the single "Could You Be Loved" which reached number 5 in the UK singles charts.

from wiki:
Commissioned by Danny Sims (co-founder and owner of JAD Records) and issued after Marley's death in May 1981, Chances Are was a collection of previously unreleased recordings from 1968 to 1972 that were produced by JAD during Marley's time living in the U.S. and otherwise working with JAD back and forth from Jamaica to the States. The selected tracks on this collection were overdubbed, remixed, and in many cases, extended beyond their original duration specially for this album.
The majority of songs on this album were re-released on the Black Progress compilation album in 1997 (also released by JAD through the former KOCH International, prior to their original versions being issued on the Complete Wailers series.) The only song not reissued in this version is Mellow Mood, although there was a limited CD pressing of Chances Are printed in the early nineties.
Song footnotes:
Reggae On Broadway — A 1972 song which fused reggae with soul and rock music in an attempt to bring Marley mainstream radio attention (particularly in the U.S.), was, in fact, a minor hit in the UK, where it was issued on CBS Records. This tune was remixed and extended for "Chances Are" and was also released as a 12" single.
Gonna Get You — Probably the only tune regarded as hardcore reggae on the album was one of two written by songwriting legend and Coasters touring member Jimmy Norman and partner Al Pyfrom.
Chances Are — This ballad was overdubbed with organ lines and extended. Before this version, "Chances Are", along with other JAD recordings whose original issuances were well long out-of-print and never commercially released again, were otherwise available on an unauthorized compilation in 1978 issued by a small label called Magnum Records that was eventually made available through many other small, independent record companies throughout the next few years with different artwork and different titles. The song was covered by The Breeders on Fate to Fatal (2009).
Soul Rebel — Previously recorded under Lee "Scratch" Perry.
Dance Do The Reggae — This recording, which was also released through CBS, was extended by one verse and chorus and slightly overdubbed.
Mellow Mood — This remake of his own rocksteady hit from the Wail 'N' Soul 'M days that was also featured on the 1978 Magnum compilation was remixed and overlaid with extra percussion.
Stay With Me — A rare venture into the pop sound of the day, this tune, which was also written by Jimmy Norman and Al Pyfrom, was remixed with extra drums and extended by repetition of the bridge.
I'm Hurting Inside — Also a cover of a Wailers rocksteady recording from the Wail 'N' Soul 'M period, this tune was remixed for Chances Are. An alternate version of the original recording was issued on the 1992 Songs Of Freedom box set.

The Wailers "Soul Rebels" (1970).

Confrontation is a Roots reggae album by Bob Marley & the Wailers, released posthumously in May 1983, two years after Marley's death. The songs on this album were compiled from unreleased material and singles recorded during Marley's lifetime. Many of the tracks were built up from demos, most notably Jump Nyabinghi where vocals from the I-Threes were added, which were not there when Marley released the song as a dubplate in 1979. In addition the harmony vocals on Blackman Redemption and Rastaman Live Up are performed by the I-Threes in order to give the album a consistent sound - on the original single versions they are performed by The Meditations. The most famous track on the album is "Buffalo Soldier." Marley expressed the wish that "I Know" would be released as a single after his death, which Island Records obliged.
Inside the album sleeve is an artist's depiction of the Battle of Adowa where Ethiopian forces defeated Italy in 1896. The cover of Confrontation is a reference to the story of St. George and the Dragon. The dragon on the cover represents Babylon, which is being slain by Bob Marley via his music.

Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Easy Skanking In Boston ’78 features two historic live shows from Boston’s Music Hall, June 8, 1978. This new and unreleased performance is from the Marley family giving unprecedented access for the first time to their personal material from their private collections and their vaults. Highlights of the performance include a lively “Jammin'” and “The Heathen,” a song Marley and the band didn’t perform during the second set. The show features them at their most comfortable, truly enjoying themselves in the spotlight, basking in the appreciation of the audience.
Backed by the Barrett Brothers, Tyrone Downey, Junior Marvin, the I-Three and Seeco, Marley is relaxed during the first set, but never less than fully in control: The Heathen and Easy Skanking both display a quiet majesty. Marley and Co are fully on fire for the second set, with War/No More Trouble and Exodus being full-throttle workouts, blasting out the Bard’s powerful messages of righteousness.
