The debut album from Melbourne based six piece outfit Transience is ready for the masses and yet again we find an example of musical excellence nestled in the dark corners of the Australian music scene, poised and prepared to burst onto the world stage.
Temple is a vessel of perennial musical magnificent delivering all between the polar extremes of wistful wonderment to angst fuelled anger. Opening in a swirling vortex of instrumental confusion, perhaps suggestive of any bands struggle to establish a sound and progress down the difficult road to success, but before long we see the path open before Transience, as they are surely destined for greatness.
Temple is a tremendous work of progressive rock/metal simply astounding in instrumental complexity throughout, all accompanied by perfection in lyrical delivery. Every note uttered ensembles the tracks melodic movement and inherent soul to a tee. And the music indeed retains soul like qualities, doubtless retained as fruit of labour and love poured by the band members and their impressive list of guests on the recording. Poignant pieces of this magnitude are seldom found outside the boundaries of major stage production compositions, and my personal view is that before long Transience will find themselves producing scores for progressive rock musicals.
There is no direct comparison for me to ask you to consider, however I am pleasantly reminded of the innovative skills possessed by masters like Andreas Nergard and Apocolyptica. The fun for the listener, naturally is a work of sheer excellence they will come back to repeatedly and regularly, coupled with the fun of identifying each individual sound in the plethora of influences represented.
This album is an astounding work of perpetual grandeur and makes me genuinely proud to share a city with this collaboration of gifted artists and their recording guests.
