Starting out as an idea in 2004, Crippled Black Phoenix soon established themselves as one of the decisive bands of the new century when it comes to cinematic soundscapes and endtime ballads not willing to be categorized. Members of the band used to play in other bands (including Iron Monkey, Gonga, Mogwai, Electric Wizard, Hearts of Black Science and others). The members, even though all involved in successful projects besides, refuse to be stamped as a name dropping cumulation of their musical past.
Using a blend of modern amplified and Victorian era equipment, the band have produced a captivating, slow-burning sound that’s both archaic and modern at the same time. This blend has led to them being called everything from stoner-prog to freak-folk to doom.
