Roy & the Devil's Motorcycle are (un)rooted in Spacemen 3, 60s dirty garage rock, and old dusty blues records about death, love and kicking out. What the three guitars and three voices in perfect evolved discordant harmony are trying to tell you is that you can have strength, to see it for what it is; you don't have to divide it, name it or conquer it. They don’t “just want to rock”, they want you to feel. They are always changing, timelessly out-of-time; always different, but always the same. All of it is slightly fuc*ed up, all of it has some tenderness, some bliss, some fear. It’s rich and open. C'est la vie, Roy. As much as we want authentic pastiche images, we can’t deal with the real palette of dirt and stars, the sun “burning down, right into my head.” The rushers and the faux-mo sapiens might not get it, but stand right where you are and listen and the years they’ve been perfecting their power together hits you like a sublime train. As Mark E Smith put it ‘We’re still one step ahead of you/I still believe in the R and R dream/R and R as primal scream.’
