The Electric Sons are an Atlanta electronic/alternative band founded by, vocalist/guitarist, Andrew Miller and, keyboardist/vocalist, Ben Richards. The band formed in 2011 when Miller left his job as an illustrator for the FX Network series, “Archer,” to team up with Richards, an advertising graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design. Miller and Richards quickly gained a following of local fans after releasing a home-recorded EP under the name “AM83”. Energized by the grass roots success of the EP, the duo set their sights on releasing a follow-up EP. It was during those writing sessions that Miller and Richard’s shared love for electronic music began to influence their writing. The result is their latest self produced, self-titled EP.
Shortly after the release of their debut E.P. in April of 2012, the Electric Sons were featured on the cover of the national music publication, Indie Music Reviewer Magazine. The EP garnered a 5-star review and critical praise. “From the production quality to the music, vocals, and lyrics: everything is a home run. After only 4 songs they will definitely leave you wanting more, so start it over and play it again!” (IMR, May 2012). The EP gained further momentum when the band was featured as Artist Of The Month on Fanbolt.com (over 159,000 followers). In 2013, the band released their debut music video for their single “Breathing Electricity” which received over 10,000 views in it’s first week. From their releases they have found themselves as featured artist on many prominent music blogs such as The Kollection, Indie Shuffle, Good Music All Day, Sound Is Style, and many more.
In 2013 ELS was invited to join Adrian Grenier’s lineup for the Wreckroom Records stage at SXSW (South by Southwest). Earlier this year (2013) they shared the stage with Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding, and Grouplove at Party In the Park at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Ga. This fall they will be taking appear in a three city RedBull Sound Select Tour, and will appear at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans in November 2013. In October of 2013 the band landed TJ Maxx’s national ad campaign with fan favorite track “Breathing Electricity.” Their next project entitled
“Chromaesthisia” is schedule for release in Winter of 2013.On stage the band brings an electric orgy of synthesized riffs and swirly guitar melodies while Miller’s clean-cut vocal breaks loose and soars high above the tangled web of synchronized beats and processed hooks.
Whether it’s the energy of the fan-favorite track, “Breathing Electricity”, or the shimmering luster of the soaring “Kyoto”, listeners of the EP and observers of the band’s live performance agree: The Electric Sons could very well be the first big electronic band to come out of the South.

There definitely isn’t a shortage of electronic music these days, but we sure could use some more like this. It’s likely that this will be your first time hearing The Electric Sons (don’t worry, it’s ours, too), but their sound is so listenable that you needn’t take any time to adjust. Hailing from Atlanta, the band released their debut EP last year, which gained enough momentum to convince them to create another. Finally, after a year-long wait since the release of the single, “Breathing Electricity”, the brand-new Chromaesthesia EP has been debuted, and it shows loads of promise.
“Electronic music” is a broad term; the genre is typically very good, but, when listened to excessively, can sometimes become bothersome to the ears. The Electric Sons separate themselves from this generalization, as their newest work can be placed on repeat without a second thought. The introductory track, “Islands”, brings a fresh feel, immediately supporting the band’s name with layers of brilliantly meshing electronic material.
Although the band was founded just 2 years ago, they sound as if they have been making music together their whole lives. There are no gaps in the album, nor are there any slip-ups; their sound is absolutely professional, as this album could certainly be thrown on the radio without any protest. As a matter of fact, if I were a record label, I would be handing these guys a contract right away. Don’t think so? Just listen to their song, “Revolutionist”, and try to argue that it can’t be a sure-fire radio hit. The Imagine Dragons gained international stardom with their latest release; there is no reason that this band shouldn’t be able to do the same with their own.
Be proud that you’ve discovered The Electric Sons before the rest of the world does (which shouldn’t take too long), and embrace the electronic ecstasy that they consistently provide with each song.
