Dead To A Dying World is a 7-piece band hailing from Dallas, Texas. The wide array of musical styles within
the band’s debut double-LP comes as no surprise considering their far-reaching, eclectic musical repertoire,
encompassing orchestral, free jazz, grindcore, and black metal backgrounds scattered among a tirade of
sounds that range from melodic crustcore reminiscent of His Hero Is Gone to more atmospheric, transient
black metal akin to Wolves in the Throne Room. While all the band’s members have been heavily active in
the underground Dallas punk and metal scene, their drummer’s distinctive proficiency is certainly most
notable through his work with such professional jazz musicians as Portugal’s Humanization Quartet and
blood’s-own Dennis Gonzalez’ Yells at Eels in addition to his long-standing grindcore duo, Akkolyte, and
Austin-based Doom Siren. The band’s classical string players both have extensive experience in
professional ensembles, with the cellist’s prominence in the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the upright
bassist’s in the Texas State Symphony Orchestra, providing the necessary foundation for a strong string
section that ultimately coalesces the band’s uncompromising sound. The end result of this unlikely mix of
musical backgrounds is a unique sound of layered complexity intimately entwined to create an experience
that is every bit as beautiful as it is brutal.
