..whatever exactly that’s suppose to mean. This underground band from Huntsville, Alabama play traditional and bullshit-free death metal . These maniacs shred and grind at the level of renowned heavyweights such as Immolation and Morbid Angel. In fact they do an impressive and near flawless cover of Morbid Angel’s song “Rapture” off the Covenant album. It may actually be better than the original. As for their own songs, they do strike a noticeable resemblance to Morbid Angel except heavier and more agressive. "Here Among Thorns" is an album that should have elevated Fleshtized to a status similar to that of say Vomitory or God Dethroned, however Fleshtized still seem to be surprisingly shrouded in obscurity.
The name of the game here is fast, pummeling double kick, propulsive blast beats, chromatic tremolo picked riffing, and deep growling vocals. Fleshtized make these often cliché adjectives and euphemisms sound better than most other bands existing within the death metal realm. It isn’t groundbreaking or particularly unique but it will very nicely scratch that angry itch for a heavy death metal craving. This is highly competent, tightly played and well produced. The musicianship on display here is top notch.
This album festers in technical and brutal territory, but never leaves out the all-too-forgotten characteristic in post-2000's dm which is Feeling. Here Among Thorns emmits a darkly sinister and savage atmosphere throughout. Aside from all that, this album will be fairly appealing to many fans of the genre. If what you're after is some of the sickest and highest quality underground death metal: Fleshtized are a definite must hear and death fiends would be insane to pass this one up.
Make sure to get this album -Especially- if you're a fan of Iniquity, Sadistic Intent, Rottrevore, or Drawn And Quartered. Fans of these bands will surely be blasting this infernally over the years.
