(Melodic Death/Thrash Metal) Asedio - Somos Nada [Limited Edition] - 2009, FLAC (image+.cue) lossless

Welcome to the Mexican metal scene! This time I introduce you a band called Asedio. Yeah, it’s kind of strange situation: there is no raw black or pathological goregrind, just pure thrash metal! This cd really surprised me, I didn’t expect such a good music. I divide the record into two parts: five new songs and five old ones taken from the previous demo. But I treat this full effort as an entirety despite of some slight difference of sounding.
As I stated earlier Asedio is a band performing thrash metal (with some death metal influences), but two first compositions may lead you into error. Namely you can hear music similar to melodic death/thrash for example At The Gates and their “Slaughter Of The Soul”. Don’t be afraid, it’s a misleading impression. Why? These Mexican sons of metal also can create excellent mix of aggression and melody. But Asedio prevails: it sounds not sterile like Swedes and has a spirit of true underground tunes. These two first songs differ a bit, but the result is the only one: to benumb and to lacerate. Since the very beginning you can hear excellent riffs, precipitant rhythm section, varied Jorge Spanish-sung vocals (mostly alternately sharp screams and growl-like singing) and refreshing guitar solo. That’s great the band tries to diversify their music, practically each song has something else to remember, each song is different, but this is thrash metal all the time! Let’s start to give some evidence. The second song “Con Todo Mi Odio”: energetic opener, regular drums pulse and the next perfect smashing riff with again two-way Jorge vo-kills. After two minutes song turns to another part, riffs change, fine guitar solo. Asedio ends this massacre by returning to the first riffs. What a fastening! If I will be on the band live show I want to hear just two first songs from “Somos Nada”. Take no prisoners! By the way, Asedio means “siege” in English. And this is truth. But there are particular circumstances: you are alone with a pistol and Asedio is an abominable ballista. As you see you have no chance…
In general the Asedio music is based on fine, fresh guitar work. I call this: refreshing the riffs. In corroboration of my words take a look on the third exhalement “Al Fondo Del Abismo”. A sudden opening, again with mindcrushing riffs, double vocals attack, after two minutes everything turns to something unexpected: acoustic guitar plays a calm melody, few seconds later you can hear clean vocals and beautiful solo guitar. Culminating point is by the third minute of lasting of this song. Brutal vocals mixed with excellent riff/solo guitar and drum cannonade. This track is built like previous one, the fastening is also here. The fourth song is a… what? Gothic/deathcore shit? NO!!! It’s pure thrash tornado, song which reminds me old Sadus a bit due to very fast structures and perfectly composed bass lines. It makes a real killer work for live shows. The last one coming from the new stuff is the title track which has a really worrisome opening with some drops of water (men, I hope there is no water leak he, he…), even-tempered tunes reign with acoustic guitar and changed Jorge vocals. After three minutes the composition goes back to taking a run, even from some doom structures to proper thrash speed, but not so fast. This metal colossus lasts almost nine minutes but believe me, it doesn’t bore you.
The first (and the only one) demo of the band is included here. That’s great. Production is shop-soiled a bit, but this stuff has the same level – pure thrash metal. Maybe the compositions have less diversity, but directness of music dazes and devours you. I would like to write about one song which ends “Somos Nada”. “Victimas De La Prohibicion” begins with subtle guitar lead (men, I really thank you for it, it reminds me the opening of my favorite song ever: “Apocalyptic City”!). After one minute butchery starts to overpower your mind. An excellent fusion of spontaneousness and musical skills. But there is one thing I do not understand. Why the hell this song is ended so unexpectedly? For me it is uncomplete! After over four minutes “Victimas…” dies in silence… No! I want more! New riffs, guitar leads, I don’t know! I want Asedio to finish this great composition. Maybe on the next album, especially for me???
To end it up I would like to glorify these five young Mexicans. They know how to play good metal (thrash!) music, they know how to refresh it. The tunes are perfect for showing them live to the maniacs, it effervesces, it has enormous energy like an exploiting nuclear bomb. The music is a really sincere, no ass-licking, no wimps, no lead keyboards. It is very hard to favour somebody. Each band member is inseparable part of the entirety called Asedio. I have one prayer for the band: do not waste your great talent!
