Forget Anathema, My Dying Bride, or whoever else you may think of when you think of Death/Doom because nobody does it better than CIANIDE.
Every single song on here is completely obliterating. Cianide's strategy is to start out excruciatingly slow (without stupid ass keyboards and shit like that), then pummel you just as soon as you thought that you could'nt go any slower.
The most similar band would be Hellhammer/Celtic Frost (THE biggest influence on death/doom bands, as well as many others), and Winter, who were a great band, but were never as good as Cianide are (though the songs Destiny and Servants Of The Warsmen are complete ass kickers). I leave out Sorrow because even though they were cool, they weren't anywhere near Cianide's league.
The stand out tracks are "Scourging At The Pillar", "Mindscape", "Human Cesspool", and "Crawling Chaos".
The only complaint I have is that some riffs should be played just a little bit longer, maybe two or four more times. Of course, if you play the hell out of a riff it loses it's effect, but for the most part, I think a few obliterating riffs could have done with a bit more time (ex: Mindscape riff at 5:15)
But as you can see, my only complaint was really just a request for more, so what you have here is all out complete ass kicking and I have only praise for that. Rating: (4.5/5) Reviewed By: Nathan Ware (raging-metal.com)
