It's no secret that the Swedish know how to do great Melodic Death Metal and thus it's hardly surprising that Planet Rain are delivering an interesting and highly valuable product here.
In 2012 they released the first part of a philosophical album trilogy called"Antichton" and now it's time for part two of their saga. The seven tracks of"The Fundamental Principles" are all thundering brutally and epic and hammer
their way through your ears without mercy. Roaring drums drive the songs forth and build a solid base on which all other instruments unfold masterful. The guitar work is remarkable: Hard, low riffs, harmonized double-guitars, fast licks, groovy parts - you get the full load. The vocals are also high-class, evil growls alternate with painful screams and by times you will find a catchy part of clear hymnal singing.
Occasionally there are also some keyboard-sounds which underline the epic and majesty of the music even better.
The songs melt into each other pretty good and sometimes are connected with samples or clean guitars.
Within the songs there are clear arcs of suspense which make each song a special one and let me think of bands like Opeth.
Stylistic it's pretty straight Melodic Death Metal but there's also a Black Metal-vibe and some pagan-like excursions.
The overall-sound is relatively well-made but partly it seems a bit muddy and tough. The guitars lack of punch and drums seem kind of mechanical. But all in all it's an over-average-sound though.
With nearly 40 minutes duration the album seems to be a bit too short, but if you think of it as a part of the three-part concept the shortness is legitimate and unders
tandable.
The songs "Fluxus" and "Kryptographik" are highly addictive and for that reason alone the record is worth buying!
Conclusion:
Solid and a bit short Melodic Death Metal record, which won't disappoint fans of the genre!
