03. Oficio De Tinieblas (01:26)
04. El Lamento Del Cabrón (16:56)
"Is March too early to predict Album of the Year just yet? Or is it just fairer to state that GRAN PODER (‘Great Power’) is as overwhelming a debut as any I’ve encountered these past ten years and leave it at that? For this first Orthodox release is a raging and debilitating sonic stag hunt – the beast of any of the doom metal genre I’ve thus far encountered" - Julian Cope´s Album of the Month

06. Templos (15:00)
07. Parte II. Apogeum (07:53)
"As expected from a band like this, its follow-up manages to confuse us all a bit further. Despite taking a similarly liisely structured approach and using the voice still as sparsely, just like another instrument "Amanecer..." is much more varied, with many more angles to it. There is less time to dwell on particular passages and the feeling is almost kaleidoscopic, more disconcerning even than the debut" - Terrorizer Magazine

“Orthodox were a metal band once, but they have become much bigger. At this point, everything they have in common with doom music or any other style of metal music or any other style of metal is the sense of spirituality and finding catharsis through rites” - The Wire

"Baal simply oozes personality, it´s the sound of a band entirely comfortable with what they do. Maintaining a certain free-form feeling, with unexpected throughout the five long songs [...] a great summing of all the fascinating things the Seville trio did on their first two remarkable albums" - Rock-A-Rolla Magazine

08. ...Y A Ella Le Será Revelado (03:46)
Recently reformed as duo, with Marco Serrato (bass, vocals) and Borja Díaz (Drums), ORTHODOX are coming back with a new studio album.
The duo emerges now performing with different guests musicians on studio sessions, developing a new form of contemporary heavy metal meets extreme jazz meets doom, like no one. New tracks show more 'straight forward' concept on composing process. But this is just NOW, as ORTHODOX never compromises with certain sound or 'song concept' for so long.
'Axis' came from such different studio sessions, with a more straight and focus punch of avant-garde approach mixed through heavy metal as only Orthodox are re-doing in every new album.
'Crown for a Mole' is the first single, taken from the new album. Also available on 7" format.
'Suyo Es el Rostro de la Muerte...' is the opening track, a fantastic instrumental intro in the most obsessive Frost-Crimson way possible!

#77701. Supreme (36:07)
released February 6, 2017
Orthodox - "Supreme"
(released by Utech Records)
The relationship between spiritual jazz and doom metal may seem to be one of irreconcilable differences – the galvanizing, ever-ascendent language of freedom set against a moribund march to the tomb, but these divergent musical idioms exist in a similar liminal space on Supreme, each one reaching out from the corporeal now into the opaque otherworld beyond. The two impulses converge in a musical dramatization of Alexander of Macedonia’s allegorical ascension to godhead on griffin wings – and his subsequent return to the earthly realm to assume his proper role as a ruler of historical proportions.
– Jenks Miller, Horseback
Spain’s long-time purveyors of the leftist side of metal, Orthodox return with their sixth full-length. Augmenting the core unit of Marco Serrato (bass) and Borja Díaz (drums) is Achilleas Polychronidis (sax) of Skullfuck. Supreme is a slow beating that drags the listener in and out of a haze of improv, psychedelia and dysfunctional doom.

REVIEWS:
"Like Naked City’s doom-indebted Long Tch’e, it’s a death march, grinding endlessly on. Serrato’s bass and Diaz’s drums are punishingly heavy; it’s possible to picture them locking eyes before each low end explosion, as Polychronidis harmonises with himself via pedals... perhaps Orthodox's heaviest and most imposing release to date".- Phil Freeman (WIRE)
"Supreme is a glorious burden to carry hinting at both Orthodox’s doom metal roots under the guise of Coltrane’s “Ascension”." -
Jon Rosenthal (Invisible Oranges)
"Supreme may well be the band’s slowest, most ponderous album yet, and as such is perhaps the perfect combination of free jazz and doom".- Joseph Burnett (Dusted Magazine)
"Hard to appreciate, more than a bit challenging to listen to, Supreme is nevertheless, imaginative expression that deserves a place in the continuum of creativity". - Karl Ackermann (All about jazz)
"you can only admire the single-minded vision of the three musicians to go that far and to really shy away from any concept of compromise."
.- Stef (Free Jazz Blog)
"This is probably what Cthulhu listens to on his days off." - Dave Foxall (a Jazz noise)
" In all seriousness, darkness and gloom Orthodox, or to make a wonderful contrarian and overwhelming doom-free plate that once gripped by it, not let go." Gert Derkx (Opduvel)
"The monk companies of the early period are back, had probably no one expected that it was end in this hypnotic exercise in stubbornness of the most recalcitrant." Guy Peters (Enola.be)
"War sounds like this." - Coronel Mortimer (La Muerte Tenía un Blog)
"One track thirty-six minutes, not easy to handle at all but very satisfying once you're in tune." Fabrizio Garau (The New Noise)
#77701. Κρέας (27:01)
released by Alone Records
After collecting excellent reviews of “Supreme” (2017) at main magazines such as WIRE, Invisible Oranges, The New Noise and Dusted Magazine and coming from the same recording sessions, “Krèas” is the convulse version of its brother album.
While “Supreme” stands as a static monolith nailing Orthodox’s vision of noise/doom/freejazz into a frozen concept, “Krèas” develops from the same concept giving more freedom for dialogue and interaction between the (this time) trio formed by Borja Díaz (drums), Marco Serrato (bass) and Aquilleas Polychronidis from Skullfuck on sax.
Orthodox are:
Achilleas Polychronidis - sax
Borja Díaz - drums
Marco Serrato - bass
Recorded and mixed at Kraken Sound Studio in Málaga (Spain) by Gonzalo Presa and Daniel Torres (16 October 2015).
Mastered by Marlon Wolterink at Whie Noise Studios (Winterswijk, The Netherlands 2018)

“This year (unlike many), my top ten list had a clear cut, decisive winner. Orthodox‘s amazing doom masterpiece Baal is a record I listened to many many times, and each time I found something new to enjoy.” - Roadburn Festival
“Orthodox are slippery nut to crack. [...] For a band that´s infinitely proud of their Spanish heritage, they´ve done an admirable job of saluting blues-based British metal and combining it with Celtic Frost´s downcast morbidity and Melvins-ish quirkiness” - Metal Hammer UK
“Beneath the sandstone bedrock & all pervasive bull worship… something stirs. Orthodox debut release is a raging and debilitating sonic stag hunt – the beast of any of the doom metal genre I’ve thus far encountered” - Julian Cope
“Orthodox were once metal, but are now much more. At this point, all Orthodox share with doom or any other style of metal is a sense of spiritual questing and a fondness for ritualized pursuit of catharsis” - The Wire
“Esta es una banda al que el adjetivo ‘ecléctica’ a veces casi le queda pequeño y a la que cualquier intento de comparar con otras se convierte en una peliaguda prueba de conocimientos musicales de los más distantes estilos y épocas.” - Maneras de Vivir
