Necrobiosis is one of Canada´s most committed and professional horror-grinding-death metal bands. Once they formed in 2004, there was no looking back as their energetic performances and captivating songs ensured a loyal following and positive reaction from crowds. There´s no denying that their combined experiences in previous bands shows through in their songwriting and professionalism. To date, they have created three albums, played many great shows and festivals, and obtained endorsements from Moser guitars and Daddario Canada. There are plans for tours both nationally and internationally in the works.
Curtis has been in numerous bands whose styles ranged from punk to death metal. While in Butane, he opened for Napalm Death and Kreator and while playing with Some Won Spit and Confront, he went on numerous small tours. The resident technician, Josh, is driven by his love to travel and meeting new people. He regularly attends the NAMM show not only as a function of his job, but also to meet others in the industry. Pat gained infamy from his seven year crusade as the vocalist for Red Tide. He has shared the stage with Dying Fetus, and has toured with Gwar, Dead Jesus, Divine Empire, and Skinless. Jeff has been in many bands including Godawful which toured across Canada and played many shows and festivals. Punishing drums came naturally to Paul and he has played in bands such as Incarnadine
Plans for 2009 include the release of their much anticipated third disc and a cross-Canada tour. They have opened for Dead Jesus on numerous occasions and have been mentioned both in the Edmonton Sun and See Magazine for opening Dead Jesus’ CD release show on Sep. 13, 2008. There was a professional video created from that show that is available on YouTube with several other live videos. Their second disc The Evolution of Sickness is currently available through the band directly. This album received review by Demonika in the Absolute Underground review Jun-Jul 08. Their first disc is only available through online download from their site. They have received airplay on CFUR 88.7fm.
The main base for Necrobiosis is Edmonton, Alberta; where a combination of mighty northern winter storms, drunken rednecks in pickup trucks, people getting stabbed nightly, cops punching handcuffed people in the face in front of horrified onlookers, and neglected mentally ill homeless people committing sex crimes combine to form a macabre inspiration for these fecund minstrels.

I think it is fair to say that NECROBIOSIS’s old-school style is not 100% compatible with my own tastes. That being said, I still found some parts of the album tolerable.
The overall music will take you back to the time when Death Metal was nothing more than just heavier Thrash. Often times, NECROBIOSIS’s riffs are slow and heavy; regardless of speed, they are always relatively simple and sludgy. Nothing about the drums or guitar stands out in the sea of bands that sound exactly like this. "The Evolution Of Sickness" is peppered with sound effects, such as a man being tortured and a ominous thunder storm. I wish they would have spent more time increasing the production value, rather than including sound effects that make me roll my eyes instead of being genuinely ‘scared.’
One of the few moments that I found to be neat was the solo during the title track. Even then, however, it is nothing special. I will give NECROBIOSIS credit for not creating all of their songs to have the same exact tempo. There are ‘faster’ songs as well as slower, heavier songs. Nothing about this album is particularly bad; it is just plagued with a lack of originality. I don’t really dig the vocals, but for the style of this record, they aren’t terrible, even if they are incomprehensible. The record is extremely middle-of-the-road.
