Jazz Pistols is a trio from Germany which is unique in their expression and sound. With their technical and musical skills, the musicians have found ways to extend the harmonic expressions of ordinary trios in many cases. Although formed like a classic jazz trio the Jazz Pistols have developed a sensational variety of sound which they can easily translate live without the need for loops and overdubs. Their so-called Energy-Jazz is defined by its groove-oriented integration of melody and harmony. One of the strengths of the Jazz Pistols is the ease of use of odd meters in pieces as a compositional device. They are able to discover new elements and levels of performance - a fact that not only surprises themselves, but also their audiences.This versatility is one of the strengths of the Jazz Pistols.
It is rare that Jazz-Rock – notoriously known as the music for musicians – is able to create this fascination on listeners – even when they normally don ́t like fusion music. The extraordinary density of sound, the catchy melodies of the complex pieces, and culture of the musicianship – the Jazz Pistols are quite different from similar bands.
Stefan Ivan Schäfers striking and variabel guitar sound carries and leads the band through ballads and hard groove pieces. His solos with their catchy melodies melt into the compositions and are truly extraordinary. Through his extraordinary tapping technique Christoph Victor Kaiser constantly is the harmonic backing of the band and simultaneously creates surprising parts of musical intensification.
With Jazz Pistols Thomas Lui Ludwig develops a polyrhythmic firework of extraordinary proportions, he is not only constant support but manages at the same time to detach himself from traditional forms.
Each member of the group is an accomplished musician with his individual style. The band combines their very differnet talents into an exciting ensemble featuring varied original compositions, arrangements rich in texture, and infectious solo performances.
It is surprising for a trio to show such expressiveness, variety of style and versatility; thats the reason why the Jazz Pistols captivate their audiences with this compactness and flexibility.
Since 1995 the Jazz Pistols toured through 33 countries worldwide. Beside that they played with Jeff Beck, Chaka Khan, Joss Stone, Vanilla Ninja, Jule Neigel Band and many more, are part of the Uwe Ochsenknecht Band, lecturers, guest-lecturers and notable workshoph leaders at the Popakademie Mannheim and universities in Germany and other countries.
