"Extraordinary is the word!" said jazz critic Don Heckman from the Los Angeles Times.
Jazz vocalist Jackie Ryan has been thrilling audiences across the globe with her powerful 3 ½ octave range and her amazing stage presence. She has a style that is uniquely her own. Born of a Mexican mother who sang in Operettas in Mexico and an Irish father who sang classical tenor in many languages, she was, as one critic put it, "simply born to sing."
She has sung all over the world from the famous Ronnie Scott's Club in London (where she was asked to record for their label) to Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland in New York to Oakland's Yoshi's, as well as many of the major jazz festivals.
Her style includes an amazing range from gospel and blues to Braziian Bossa Novas. From Latin to Bebop, from Vocalese to the most heartfelt ballads. She sings in several languages. "Everything she sings comes off beautifully, with amazing control. If she sings loud and brassy, she nails it; if she goes soft and silky, she owns it." (Baker and Taylor's CD Hotlist review)
Jackie Ryan's latest double CD, DOOZY, featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Eric Alexander, Romero Lubambo and Jeremy Pelt, has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews as well as 4-stars (excellent!) from both DOWNBEAT and All Music Guide, and held the #1 position nationwide on JazzWeek's industry-standard chart for 7 solid weeks - an extraordinarily rare achievement (only one vocal recording ever matched that: Diana Krall's, "From This Moment On").
Jackie Ryan was a featured artist on NPR, Voice of America, CNN Español, and PRIMETIME A&E. She has shared the stage and/or recorded with: Clark Terry, Toots Thielemans, Barry Harris, The Jeff Hamilton Trio, Amina Figarova, Cyrus Chestnut, Terry Gibbs, Eric Alexander, Buddy DeFranco, Red Holloway, Romero Lubambo, and Jon Hendricks, to name just a few.
She is "one of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and, quite possibly, of all time. She is the thoroughbred vocal equivalent of the Triple Crown, rivaling the dexterous sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae and the scintillating verve of Diana Krall." Christopher Loudon, JAZZTIMES
Whether you are in the mood for a romantic ballad or a passionate bolero or just feel like swinging - soft and slow or free and breezy - young or young at heart - there's more than enough here to keep the home fires burning.
Jackie turns up the heat on this journey through the full range of romantic feelings - from first love's excitement "Now Or Never" to love's lasting memories "When I Grow Too Old To Dream". From the opening flirtations of "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" to the sensuous burning desires of "Make It Last". From the amorous musings of "This Heart Of Mine" to the final tender sweet reflections of "While We're Young". All the bases of love are touched - all with stunning arrangements and stellar accompaniment by some of the jazz world's finest musicians.
Selected from three recordings released from 2002 to 2006, this collection is testimony to the breadth of this artist's myriad musical gifts - from rarely heard jazz gems, to poignant soulful ballads - from a sensuous Brazilian love song, to a passionate Spanish bolero - from sizzling swing standards to two originals graced by her own insightful lyrics.
"Singing from the heart," as BILLBOARD aptly states, "Jackie bridges gaps between both geography and generations" and delivers a collection of songs you can both fall in love with... and fall in love to.
