Kick Me is a legendary release from Kelly Hogan and Bill Taft, only sold on cassette during their 1992 tour together with this music. Hogan and Taft were on the verge of breaking into the big time with their band Jody Grind when a car crash on the way back to Atlanta from a Florida show claimed the lives of their two fellow band members, as well as Atlanta genius performance artist poet Deacon Lunchbox. With incredible force of will, Taft and Hogan cut these songs of love and loss as "Kick Me"; the songs from the cassette only hint at the power of the live performance. I picked this up at their show in Gainesville, FL at the Covered Dish. It was one of the most moving and powerful shows ever played there.
Half of the songs from the Kick Me tape would be reworked with a full band to be released as Kelly Hogan's first solo record, "The Whistle Only Dogs Can Hear."
