Another Taste was the sophomore album from the Disco-Funk group on Capitol Records in 1979.The album returned the group to the top thirty of the R&B album chart and featured the oft-sampled R&B #13 hit DO IT GOOD. Like their debut album, it was produced by Capitol Records’ Funk, Soul and Jazz legends Fonce Mizell & Larry Mizell. The album makes its international CD debut with this release. Liner notes include detailed interviews. Also featured are two bonus tracks. This long sought-after CD remaster is a must for all Capitol Soul, Dance and Funk fans. Released in deluxe super jewel cases.
A year before releasing this album, ATOH scored one of the most beloved hits in the history of disco with "Boogie Oogie Oogie." However, the accompanying album was a surprisingly average set of slow soul that did nothing to stay in the Boogie Oogie Oogie groove. On this superiorly enjoyable followup album, the group puts considerably more emphasis on the bouncy, throbbing disco beats that "Boogie Oogie Oogie" fans would probably want to get down to (especially "Do It Good" and "The Rainbow's End"), and an improved sense of melodicism make the slow ballads on this album much more enjoyable than those on the previous album.
LOVE the first single from this album ("Do It Good")! The rest is typical Taste of Honey which features the lazy, creamy and textured vocals of Janice Marie Johnson with nice harmonies from her sidekick, Hazel Payne. This would be the last album they would record as a quartet before downsizing to a duo for the comback (because this album flopped), "Twice As Sweet" in 1980, which would boast hits in "Rescue Me" and "Sukiyaki." I can't believe it's taken 31 years to see the light of release on CD!

Inevitably, many groups will suffer from the dreaded sophomore curse – they'll impress you with a promising debut album, only to disappoint you with an inferior second album. But Taste of Honey didn't let its audience down on its generally impressive sophomore effort, Another Taste. While this album didn't contain a chart-topper hit like "Boogie Oogie Oogie," the addictive "Do It Good" did reach number 13 on the R&B charts. Another Taste is full of irresistible soul-disco grooves, which range from the lush "Dance" and the dreamy "The Rainbow's End" to the exuberant "Take the Boogae or Leave It." Because "Boogie Oogie Oogie" had sold two million copies, it stands to reason that Capitol would, in 1979, encourage Honey to give this album a lot of dancefloor appeal. But to their credit, Janice Marie Johnson and Hazel Payne don't try to turn any of the dance numbers into a remake of "Boogie Oogie Oogie"; in fact, they deserve high marks for making this album as unpredictable as it is. And while up-tempo material dominates Another Taste, "Let's Begin" and "Your Love" remind us how appealing the group's slow jams could be.
