#777С юности тянулся к ритмичной музыке, но начало его карьеры было нелёгким. Первым его синглом был "Let's grove on" (1986), затем в 1988 году Rene выиграл главный приз на Tropic-дискотеке в германском городе Memmingene и занял третье место на ежегодном танцевальном фестивале в Ибице. Тогда он использовал ещё своё настоящее имя.
Под сценическим псевдонимом DJ Bobo первого успеха он добился в родной Швейцарии с суперхитом "Somebody dance with me", который в ноябре 1992 года был №1 в швейцарских чартах, а в нескольких других странах попал в TOP10 и был золотым в Швейцарии, Австрии, Германии, Израиле и Швеции. Второй хит "Keep on dancing" был №1 в Финляндии, вошёл в TOP10 практически во всех европейских странах и стал золотым в Германии. После этого успеха DJ Bobo выпускает свой дебютный альбом "Dance with me", который попадает в европейские чарты, а лучшая композиция с этого альбома - "Take control" также получает золото в Германии.
В 1994 году DJ Bobo занимает вторую строчку в германских чартах с медленной рэгги-композицией "Everybody", которая в итоге становится платиновой. А осенью того же года выходит его второй, самый известный альбом "There is a party", задорная композиция "Let the dream come true" с которого становится золотой. В январе 1995 сингл "Love is all around" попадает в TOP10 в нескольких странах и шесть раз становится золотым в Германии. Затем артист отправляется в турне по Южной Америке. В мае на фестивале в Монако он получает приз как самый продаваемый швейцарский исполнитель года. Потом следуют туры по Азии (в том числе по Южной Корее и Таиланду) и Австралии. Везде его выступления сопровождаются грандиозными шоу с профессиональной хореографией, гигантскими фейерверками и фантастическими световыми эффектами.
В конце 1995 года выходит третий альбом DJ Bobo - "Just for you", содержавший ремиксы уже известных песен, рождественский хит "It's time for Christmas" и сингл "Love is the price". А в январе 1996 года певцу была присуждена престижная награда в швейцарском Давосе за альбом "There is a party", и он был признан лучшим европейским певцом 1995 года среди мужчин.
