#777Composer & producer Leland Scali has been making music for two decades. Currently based outside of Atlanta, Leland Scali has dedicated endless hours to his music, using his small town upbringing to help hone in on his dreams.
"A lack of big city distractions can be a good thing if you're trying to focus on a task," he said.
Leland Scali has worked tirelessly for years on his music, learning how to play five instruments, including the guitar, bass, drums, piano and turntables.
In an age before SoundCloud, YouTube and Bandcamp, Leland Scali found getting his music out there a much more difficult feat than it is today.
"CD baby was really your only outlet, and that was still in it's infancy," he said.
So, in an effort to further his music career, he began training as a recording engineer. However, the desire to create overtook wanting to capture the creations of others. This led him to working in a music store with like-minded people in the industry.
Then, his dreams came to a crashing halt. His mother's health began to deteriorate due to complications from cancer. Because of this, he moved back to his hometown of Youngstown, OH, to be close to her. He began working construction during the days and focused on his art at night.
"I think my mom always saw the art potential as more of a reality and the music as a hobby," he said. "When things took a turn for the worse, I scrambled to show her I wasn't going to be a failure."
Five years and three games later, Leland Scali found success as an artist in the gaming industry, a field he never thought possible. In his early years he was making trance and breakbeat music mixed with rock. Today, his music is a combination of all of those things but now includes essences of dubstep and electro house, taking inspiration from Seven Lions and Xilent and Fractal and creating a truly unique listening experience.
"Audible excitement is extremely powerful, it can change who you are as a person and those around you almost instantly."
