Although some people might consider "Involucion" to be Ktulu's first album, the band themselves proclaim that it is a demo, and that "Orden Genetico" is their real first album.
This said, what do we have here? Pure 80's thrash with a lot of rythym, carefully composed tempo changes and pretty fast music though no taken to the extreme all the time in order to add more groove to the songs. I guess that the closest comparision (and believe me, really close) is Sepultura's Arise-era.
The music is more on the technical side of thrash, removed from bands such as Sodom, though not comparable to Coroner or Kreator.
The guitars really add A LOT to the overall rhythm, with great right-hand, palm muted riffs that blend perfectly with the bass and the great drumer's performance through the whole cd.
The production is great for being such a small band at that time, the guitars never get blurry and the bass is kinda audible if you have a good ear (this is metal, not drum'n'bass, however pitying it is) and the drums are clean and strong.
The songs, although easily distinguishable, tend to follow a similar vein, with a few exceptions.The first track sets the tone for most of the cd, pure thrash metal with a few hints of death through the guitars, keeping a quick tempo for most of the songs (not Slayer, though) with heavier mid-sections that lead to great solos that sometimes sound to much like Andreas Kisser's, however, without restraining the efectiveness and interest of them.
The exceptions here are "Orden genetico" and "Apocalipsis 25-D). The first is slower to the rest, great and heavy chugga-chugga riffs (excuse my language), the latter being their first steps into the metal industrial sub-genre, originally recorded for the "El Dia de la Bestia"'s soundtrack.
This work is recommendable for any thrash metal and mid-era Sepultura fans. However, if you are not that crazy for thrash metal, don't bother. ( с ) .
