Although Jahsoma have only been together since May 2002, the band have already started picking up rave reviews from the rock press.
Rocksound magazine said of their debut CD 'Jahsoma' - 'This band are heading to bigger things before they've even started'. And webzines such as Sabotage and Amplify This have described them as 'the European answer to Deftones'.
It's not all hype however as tracks such as 'King Me' and 'Pavlovian' display an assurance that belies the band's relative youth. Brutally intense down-tuned riffs vie with angry vocals in an abrasive musical melting pot which is decidedly (and unashamedly) Metal.
Just don't call them Nu Metal!
Bassist Kev Theobald is adamant the band shouldn't be pigeonholed that easily.
He said: "Nu Metal is much more about the image than the music. With bands like Linkin Park it's just a load of trendy 30-year-old guys talking about splitting up with their girlfriend. They should be talking about real things. We can't really relate to 'crying over spilt milk' sort of issues.
"There are so many different labels anyway, Nu Metal is just one of them."
The band are far more comfortable with labels such as Noisecore, Emo or Punk and cite 90s Thrash Metal purveyors Machine Head, Pantera and Sepultura as big influences on their sound.
Early last year, Kev and drummer Dave Staynings who both hail from Swindon hooked up with vocalist Shem Watson and guitarist Kodjo Akaseh Tsakpo from recently disbanded Gloucester rockers System Wrecking Silence.
Drummer Dave explained: "We each come from all walks of life but musically were were into similar things and all had different ideas to throw into the pot."
"Some of the stuff people come out with we've heard hundreds of times. We definitely have our own sound. You can hear it and say 'that's Jahsoma' straight away."
After spending a few months writing songs, the band entered Studio Adelaide in Chelmsford to record their eponymously titled debut CD.
'Jahsoma' was subsequently so well-received that it won them gigs with The Hope Conspiracy, Johnny Truant, Mahumodo, Sikth and many other up and coming UK metal bands.
Kev feels that part of the reason for their early popularity were the disaffected themes the songs on the CD convey.
"The sound captured on disc was one that was angry and one with a message," he said.
"Our generation is one that feels ripped off, under appreciated and abused. We are saying what many of the youth today feel. We are frustrated with superiors and elders that have hidden agendas and dishonest answers to our questions."
Dave feels that another facet that distinguishes the band from the Nu Metal genre are Jahsoma frontman Shem's hard-hitting political lyrics.
"We've all got the same political views and we all think about the world in the same way. It's not just a hobby, we want to get to the stage where we use our music as a platform to get our message over to people.
"The track 'King Me' is all about George Bush and how he rigged the US elections and how he basically went back on all his promises."
Serious stuff indeed and the band want to spread the word as far as they can over the next 12 months.
Kev said: "We're still quite a new band and have only played a handful of gigs so we just want to get out there and play to as many people as possible."
The band have eight gigs lined over the next seven weeks in places as far afield as Manchester, Folkestone and Cambridge.
