Despite their rather unusual appearance, Guruguru eigakan are unfortunately one of the few bands that have failed to create a stir both within and outside of Japan. This group of men, to those who know them, have established themselves as one of the pioneering faces in the eroguro movement. With their characteristic ‘geisha’ white faces, black lipstick and dark eye shadow, the band’s subject material covers young love and emotion throughout the teenage years.
Uncharacteristic, one might think, for a band with their ghostly countenances, but in fact this is the subject for a vast majority of eroguro bands and Guruguru eigakan are similar in that aspect. A difference is, however, that unlike various regular rock bands, this group twists this subject matter into something macabre by adding the themes of death, lost love and depression.

Inugami Circus Dan (犬神サーカス団)

Inugami Circus-dan stands out as one of the most interesting and long lived among the visual rock bands in the Japanese underground music scene. The four-piece band is fronted by strong voiced Inugami Kyouko, who is one of the well-respected female artists in visual kei. Together, the band members make up an unusual but enigmatic group, which were named after a film by cult director Shuuji Terayama.
The band plays solid rock 'n' roll music with an enka-style twist. Their music is original, uncompromising and most of all fun. With such a vast discography, however, many other styles such as blues, techno, jazz and even hip-hop have also been added into the band's repertoire. One of the shocking factors about Inugami Circus-dan is their fearlessness to cover disturbing subject matters such as molestation, incest and genocide.
Kyouko normally dresses in a traditional kimono and has kabuki-like make-up. The other band members, who are all male, wear military-style uniforms and similar make-up as Kyouko, but not as dramatic. More often than not, the band leader Akira likes to wear a corset and plastic devil style horns on his head.

Onmyo-Za (陰陽座)

Onmyo-za are a Japanese heavy metal band who released their first commercial album in 1999. They play quite orthodox heavy metal music, mixed with elements from Japanese folk and pop music, and play both fast, hard songs and slow ballads. Since their debut in 1999, they have appeared in traditional clothing characteristic of Japan's Heian period.
Their name refers to Onmyoudou and the gathering of yin and yang (Inyo in Japanese, formerly Onmyou), and the theme of opposites and cosmic dual forces are prevalent in their lyrics. This contrast is also represented by the female and male vocals and two guitarists.
