Conceptualized by master improvisational pianist-composer, Bob Ravenscroft, Ravenswave was born in 2002. Bob Ravenscroft Trio’s new album hits new improvisational heights, literally. CrossCurrents (Ravenswave Recordings) is an emotional foray through seven originals that invoke feelings like the opening “Unsettled” — an 8-minute track marked by edgy piano exploration and passionate bass riffs — and other succinctly titled titles such as “Foreboding,” “Beguilement” and “Tensility.” These descriptors are apt explanations of what the music creates for listeners…they captivate, distract, calm and a whole lot more. It’s a challenging whirlwind of emotions and yet another extension of Ravenscroft’s recent exploration of the musical unknown.
