The Sweet Vandals are a vintage 60s and 70s funk band from Madrid. Their music was used in a Fiat Bravo television advert.
The Sweet Vandals were formed in Madrid in 2005. After a few gigs they recorded a 45 containing the song "I Got You Man" under the Funkorama label. The song was a success in the underground market and the band signed with Unique Records, a label from Germany. Their first album was released in 2007 and in 2008 was released in France by Differ-Ant. The band then toured extensively in Germany, France and more.
After the Fiat advert the band published their second album "Lovelite". More focused on raw soul, they played a live session for the BBC at Maida Vale Studios and Rockpalast, a live music show of the German WDR. They also played in many countries like Finland, Mexico, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Uk, just to name a few.
In 2011 they release their latest work with Unique Records. Their third album "So Clear", with a more sophisticated production including a gospel choir, strings, electric pianos, etc. The band opened its influences with more jazz, soul, psychedelia and blues. They toured extensively in Spain for first time.
In 2012 they started working with their own label, "Sweet Records" and release several 45's before their fourth album, "After All", which will be released worldwide between March and May 2013 through Vampisoul distribution.

The explosion in the black music scene in Spain over the last few years is undeniable and THE SWEET VANDALS have been at the forefront of European soul and funk bands since they released their rst album in 2007. Starting in small clubs where they built up their sound the band has gone on to perform at top festivals such as Womad, Pori Jazz Festival and Blue Note. Other accolades include European tours, particularly popular in France and Germany, worldwide gigs and performances for the BBC and the legendary Rockplast TV show on Germany’s WDR. All this has helped the band earn their nickname as the hardest working band in Europe. After three albums with the Düsseldorf based label Unique they have decided to make the jump to their own label SWEET RECORDS.
These heartfelt musicians are now putting all their knowledge learned from touring and recording into their work at their own studio, FUNKAMEBA STUDIOS. Used as The Vandals’ headquarters, FUNKAMEBA STUDIOS had recorded many of Spain’s up and coming bands. It’s here in this musical laboratory made up of vintage tunes, tapes and gear that THE SWEET VANDALS’ latest creation was born. Their fourth album, “AFTER ALL”, is their best work yet and a modern day soul and funk masterpiece.
THE SWEET VANDALS’ obsession with nding the right sound for each of their songs is a hallmark of their work and this reaches its peak in “AFTER ALL”. You’ll nd their trademark wild funk along with the classic sounds of Hi Records or Atlantic in some smart soul tunes. You can hear Mayka Edjole’s powerful and unique vocals ood the tape with her energy or hear her whisper her beautiful and honest lyrics into the mic as if she were right beside us. Experimenting with new sounds you’ll discover amazing vocal, horns and stings arrangements backed by a tight and always ready to funk rhythm section. “AFTER ALL” is a concept album with a great variety of styles and of course tons and tons of soul.
THE SWEET VANDALS eat, sleep and breathe funk and soul. True to their roots but with a contemporary twist they follow the only path they know: wherever their music takes them.
