The Bolyki Brothers is the production of four brothers in Hungary (Andrew, George, Laszlo and Balazs). Singing together for more than 20 years, they are appreciated in the world of jazz and pop, as well as in classical music. Each brother having graduated in viola, cello or clarinet, they continue to remain involved in classical music in various orchestras such as the Erkel Ferenc Chamber Orchestra (Budapest), the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Esterházy Ensemble (Vienna). Their classical qualification keeps their art always fresh – which is named as an independent genre by an international jury.
The brothers sing jazz, spiritual songs, gospel songs and their own compositions without instrumental accompaniment-a cappella – in English and in Hungarian. Sounding bass and percussions only with human voice, and the virtuosity of the soloist – imitating trumpet, guitar, and other instruments – provides a unique experience.
They perform concerts in the largest Hungarian concert halls (Palace of Arts, Millenaris Theater, Academy of Music, Budapest Sportarena) and also sing in many foreign countries. In 2007, they were invited to a one-month tour in the United States. They presented 19 concerts in four different states. Their concerts have delighted listeners in some of the greatest concert halls and churches in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, France, Italy, Serbia, Croatia and Slovakia. In 2008, they will travel again to the United States for another tour.
The Bolyki Brothers have received numerous awards including first place at the 2005 International A Cappella Competition in Graz (Austria) in jazz category, where they also won the golden diploma of the jury, and two audience awards. They sing on many anthology albums, for example, they were invited to sing on the Ira Stanphill tribute CD performing 'He Washed My Eyes with Tears' ('Mansion Over the Hilltop', USA, Daywind, 2004).
Their albums are 'A cappella Live' (1998) 'A hangszerek mi vagyunk' (2000, 'We are the instruments') and 'The Fruit of the Spirit' (2002), which has been widely received and heralded by music critics. They also presented 'Hová mész te kis nyulacska?' (2003, 'Where do you go little rabbit?'), which is a funny cover of a Hungarian children's song in almost all genres of music (Gregorian, yodel, country, boogie-woogie, techno, rap, contemporary classical music, etc.) They keep this parody as regular part of their concerts, as well as singing together with the audience.
During their performances, the Bolyki Brothers have already faced the experience of singing together with famous Hungarian and foreign musicians, such as the Benkó Dixieland Band, Tamas Berki and the Holmes Brothers (USA). They have also appeared in several shows with the world-famous guitar virtuoso, Al Di Meola. The last clarinetist of Louis Armstrong, Joe Muranyi said: “These guys make joke of everything but music.”
The Bolyki Brothers took part in composing music to animated cartoons (Egon Donci, Macskafogó II – Cat Nipper II).
Their latest production – Dr. Bubo, family musical at Budapest Sportarena – brought down the house in all the performances. Well-known Hungarian actors and musicians impersonated all the leading parts.
