Solo Piano Music by Robin Meloy Goldsby: Songs from the Castle pays tribute to the places I once dreamed about, and to the castle where I currently perform. In between long-ago memories and fantasies and the harsh realities of my everyday life as a musician and writer, I've built a few castles of my own. These invisible palaces exist in my cherished memories of family and friends, the home I've made with my husband and children, and the music I've continued to write as I approach my 50th birthday. My definition of beauty has changed in the four decades that I have been composing and performing music. I've come a long way from fairy wings, blue-gunned sequined dresses, plastic tiaras, and the desire to wear an angel costume while strumming a zither. but my desire to be surrounded by beauty has never altered course. The solo piano compositions on this recording correspond to the stories by Robin Meloy Goldsby from her book, Waltz of the Asparagus People. Available in both English and German (Walzer der Spargelmenschen), Goldsby s lyrical stories reveal the trials and triumphs of an expatriate musician s life, as she connects her music to family, friends, and home, past and present. Robin Meloy Goldsby is the author of Piano Girl and Rhythm. Her thirty-year career as a musician has taken her from roadside dives to posh New York City venues and exclusive resorts, and on to the European castles and concert stages where she now performs. Robin has three other solo piano recordings to her name Twilight, Somewhere in Time, and Songs from the Castle and has appeared on National Public Radio s All Things Considered and Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. Robin is a Steinway Artist. In 2010 her collaboration with singer/composer Joyce Moreno, Slow Music, received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Brazilian Album. Goldsby's solo piano arrangements, honed over the years during her tenure as a hotel pianist in New York and Europe are beautiful and unique arrangements of classic pop songs Somewhere in Time, recorded at Nola Studios in New York City, is Robin Meloy Goldsby's debut solo piano recording. The CD, produced by composer/pianist Robin Spielberg features some of Goldsby's favorite songs, gracefully played and beautifully arranged. Pianist, author, and composer Robin Meloy Goldsby performs live in a variety of settings. She often serves as a cultural ambassador for European organizations dedicated to transatlantic relations. In July 2012, she performed for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt at the Eric Warburg Awards, sponsored by Atlantik Brücke, e.V (Berlin). She has presented her reading/concert program for numerous U.S. Consulates in Europe; for Amerika Haus, e.V. NRW; for Steinway in New York, Berlin, and Vienna; and for the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas (FAWCO) in Marrakesh, Vilnius, and Dublin. Goldsby’s one-woman performance includes stories from her books along with her solo piano compositions. She also performs regularly at Schlosshotel Lerbach, a five-star castle hotel in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany.
