These are only a small portion of artists who have enlisted the amazing and inspiring drumming of Dennis Chambers. Hailing from Baltimore, he started playing at age 4 and was performing in nightclubs by the time he celebrated his 6th birthday. It was there he started building the foundation of what was to become his signature sound. Between the years 1978-1985, he was the force behind the ground breaking musical forces of Parliament and Funkadelic. After a brief stint in Special EFX, Dennis exploded onto the scene with John Scofield’s Blue Matter, Loud Jazz, and the incredible Pick Hits Live. His deep groove can make you bite your bottom lip or he can broadside you with tom flurries that will make you shake your head in disbelief.
Always evolving and striving for perfection, Dennis has made an impact on the drumming world that few others have. Talk to anyone who has attended one of his drum clinics and they can attest to his mastery of rhythm. Some of his other projects include CAB, Tom Coster, Tetsuo Sakurai, supergroup Niacin, The Brecker Brothers, Andy Summers, Bob Berg, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, and continuing to record and tour with Santana. He has also released several solo CDs, Big City, Getting Even, Outbreak, and Planet Earth.

"It was the summer of 1986. A friend of mine and I were sitting in a New York City jazz establishment called Fat Tuesday's. The hour became late and the assembled Saturday night audience grew anxious. Most had come to see guitar wizard John Scofield. We had come to experience the drummer.
He was a young star rising, a guy who the musicians were hip to but the public was yet to be aware of. He was being touted as a musical genius, the next Cobham. He was Weckl and Rich rolled into one. That's what we had heard about Dennis Chambers and now we were going to see him play. What we saw was very difficult to describe. Omar Hakim saw Dennis Chambers play that same week and said of his performance simply: "Scary!"
Big City, Dennis Chambers' first solo album, is a testament to what was said about him several years ago with one difference, now he is frightening. Big City takes the listener through a gamut of jazz style inflections, signature applications, musical dynamics, emotions, attitudes and interpretations that only Chambers can provide. You can smell the music of New York on this disc.
