Elgonix Labs, Glendale, CA. Issued in 2005, ALL RISE marks the solo debut of Inara George, vocalist of The Bird and the Bee and daughter of late Little Feat frontman Lowell George. Aided by multi-instrumentalist/producer Michael Andrews (renowned for his film score work on DONNIE DARKO), George presents a set of aching folk-tinged tunes (see "Fools Work") that leave plenty of space for the singer's gentle and inviting voice. Q (p. 112) - "George and her co-writer Michael Andrews twist songs such as 'Mistress' and 'Genius' into baroque shapes, ornate orchestration complementing sweetly mysterious vocals."
Inara George's All Rise seems familiar but at the same time, you're going to think that it's original. Her voice has the same rich, sexy textures as Metric vocalist, Emily Haines. She can slither around a melody like a pro, with a sixties tinged falsetto or with a caressing purr. George has an array of lovely and silky compositions here. In "Mistress", she tackles a provocative subject with enough suggestive vocal acrobatics to electrify. But the clincher is that All Rise is not limited to torch songs. "Genius" is a propulsive gem which has touches of Aimee Mann's guitar pop. While "Fools in Love" is an introspective piece, with Inara singing about her low opinions of people in love but it's a flippant delivery, one gets from the gently strummed guitars and the devastating melody, that this woman would rather be in love more than anything. It's a song you'd expect from the sixties, seventies female folkies. It's this combination of old and modern elements of pop music that makes this record so compelling and one of the unsung masterpieces of 2005.

On 2008's AN INVITATION, vocalist Inara George (The Bird and the Bee) collaborates with renowned arranger/multi-instrumentalist Van Dyke Parks (Brian Wilson, the Byrds) for a buoyant album of orchestral indie-pop. The swooning symphonic aesthetic of Parks is fully on display during these 13 songs (see the dreamy "Right as Wrong" and the stately "Rough Design"), though George, the daughter of late Little Feat frontman Lowell George, is never outshined. In fact, Parks's deft string, woodwind, and horn ornamentation perfectly complements George's warm voice and literate lyrics, making AN INVITATION a fine inclusion to the chamber-pop canon.
