DANA WINNER, whose achievements in the industry embody this notion, is set to embark on a South African tour on the 15th and 16th February 2002 at Carnival City and on the 18th February at the Callie Human Centre in Bloemfontein. No stranger to South Africa, DANAs relationship with the country began when a duet with local star, Steve Hofmeyer, led her to perform at the State Theatre in Pretoria. Subsequent performances followed and it was not long before she established herself as a firm favourite with local fans, selling an incredible 215 000 copies of her albums in South Africa. DANA is truly an international artist and her 15 albums have sold over 1 million copies in 16 countries around the world. DANA made her musical debut in 1989 when she was discovered in a talent competition. She had a radio hit with "Op Het Dak Van De Wereld", a cover of the Carpenters classic "Top Of The World" This was the beginning of her climb to stardom. More success was soon to follow and in 1992 she went straight to number one in Belgium with the single "Woordenloos". Since then she has owned the number one position in Flanders, often for no less than seven weeks at a time with hits like ”De Oude Man En De Zee". Her first album, "Regenbogen" released in 1993, was an overwhelming success and sold no less than 180 000 copies (six times platinum in Belgium). These early achievements were only the beginning and set the pace for future success stories. The albums that followed were unprecedented commercial successes and DANA was awarded platinum status three or four times for each album released. "The Best Of- DANA WINNER 1989-1999", was released early November 1999, to celebrate her ten years on stage. The album, containing 27 of her biggest hits, plus four new songs also went platinum. This kind of industrious and phenomenally successful music production does not escape attention and DANA has received numerous prestigious Belgian and global awards for her impeccable style and for leaving an indelible impression on the face of world music. She won the highly coveted "Gouden Oog" award five times in a row between 1993 and 1997 and in 1995 was awarded the "Zamu Award" as the best female singer. In the same year she was nominated by "The Brussels International Trade Mart" as one of the best-dressed women in Belgium. This was also the year DANA received an honorary award for her support of "Steunactie - Rwanda". The "Diamond Award" as best newcomer on the German music scene followed in 1998 as well as an award for her support of "Artsen Zonder Grenzen" in South Africa. Readers of the South African magazine “Keur” also nominated her in 1999 and 2000 as their "Favorite International Female Artist". DANAs success in South Africa was cemented by the recording of a special album celebrating the beauty of her second home, entitled “In Love With You" in1998. The album consists of songs in English and two Afrikaans versions of her greatest Flemish hits. This album was embraced by the South African public and became the success story of the year. She released her second album - "Yours Forever” in November 1999, once again, tailor-made for South Africa. Both albums went to the top of the charts. The song "In Love With You" was included on the soundtrack of Leon Schusters hit film, Millennium Menace. DANA also performed sell-out concerts in the internationally renowned Sun City-Superbowl in February 2000. Her 3rd album for South Africa was released in February 2001 entitled "Rainbows Of Love". The release of DANAs albums in Namibia in 2000 came as a total surprise, with great results. DANAs latest album “Unforgettable” was released in October 2001 and has been received with open arms by all her South African fans. In May 2000, DANA included another territory onto her circuit, The Middle East. (United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and Quatar (9 Countries in total). Releasing an album that consists of the best English songs from the two albums, "In Love With You" and "Yours Forever" called "Follow Your Heart", it became DANAs first album containing a fully English repertoire. The upcoming concerts by this artist will signal a welcome return for her fans and for the singer herself, a homecoming to the land she truly loves.
