We have here a Hungarian band, which is the first one signing with Magna Carta coming from this country. There are not many Hungarian bands which made a career beyond the borders of their country. We could name EKTOMORF here who have a prolific career and some of you might be familiar with the name Csihar Attila and TORMENTOR.

AGE OF NEMESIS are not a new band and this album is not a completely new one. The songs were already released earlier, but in Hungarian and under the name of NEMESIS. In which form and on which albums you can easily find out on the band's homepage. The ones among you who are into Progressive Metal would probably know that the US label Magna Carta signs only combos playing this kinda music. And AGE OF NEMESIS are no exception to the rule. They play homage to the kind of Progressive Metal by which also DREAM THEATER enchant their fans. I am far of saying that they are only another DREAM THEATER clone, they are too close to my heart to pretend something like that, ...ah, maybe a bit too close to be able to write an objective review. But I think subjectivity is welcomed in the case of a musical review. When I write a review then I intend to convince others to lend an ear and listen to a CD, and build their own opinion, which has not to be similar to mine at all.

This band became one of my favorites since their first album has been released. And this has not changed a bit, even if the line-up has gone through some radical changes in the meantime. In spite of these changes the music has stayed the same: top notch and demanding Progressive Metal, which is inspired not only by DREAM THEATER but also by the likes of RUSH, EMERSON LAKE & PALMER, YES or according to their own homepage: RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, IRON MAIDEN, KING'S X. They knew very well how to mould their influences into their very own style and sound, a path which lies hidden for the most bands.

The musical skills of the band cannot be ignored, on the contrary, one can but only praise the fact, that with all the obvious musical talent involved, they have found the perfect balance between melody, text and an appropriate musical expression. They are not venturing into endless and unnecessary passages only to display their musical skills. I don't wanna lose too many words on this album, I hope the things already said will convince you to give AGE OF NEMESIS a chance and I am sure that the music will do the rest. The first six songs of the album tell a story which can be found on the page of Magna Carta. Of all the songs I would highly recommend you "Mommy's Crying".

Please don't let yourselves be disturbed by the rating, it should be a 10, but for me personally the Hungarian version is closer to my heart and soul. Hope you will appreciate the band as much as I do. Enjoy!
