Примерно в это же время шведская пятерка записал песню из репертуара «Helloween» для трибьюта «The Keepers of Jericho Part II».

"Perpetual Twilight" represents Axenstar's first commercial foray into the full-length CD market, after 4 years of existence. They use the basic power metal recipe, but do it rather well: Take one solid, standard power metal vocalist, mix liberally with solid, standard power metal guitars, add standard keyboards, primarily for atmospherics, and underline that mix with solid, standard double-bass power metal drumming. Mix all ingredients well, and make a CD. Voila!
Now, don't get me wrong - as the score should indicate, I really don't have an issue with a band taking a proven recipe, and using it to the best of their abilities, without adding much of anything that is new. Axenstar, in this first effort, play good, interesting power metal, with all of what you come to expect from the genre. There are a couple of items that stand out - one as a positive, at least to me, the other is a negative, without doubt, and hence the score in the low 80s.
The CD contains 9 tracks, plus a bonus offering, and 8 of the 9 follow the above described formula with success. The 9th track is a nice instrumental ballad and fits in just fine. The somewhat strange, but positive, aspect of this CD is that it will put a smile on your face. Eh, you say - explain? This is happy, positive, fun power metal - there is no trace of hate, anger, or spite. Tracks such as "King of Tragedy" or "The Cross We Bear" could be called "King of Smiles" and "The Ever So Light Load We Happily Carry" - because there is no trace of tragedy or sorrow to be found. This, to me, is not a bad thing at all in this case - you will tap, sing, and smile, which is good.
Not so good is the production of this CD. The sound overall is solid, and you can distinguish each instrument clearly. The vocals, however, have been buried in the back, way behind the rest of the band, to the extent that you have to concentrate to really hear the lyrics. The vocals are good, and there is no reason to bury them - it seems a case of bad mixing, but it distracts and downgrades the CD as a whole.
Having said all that, the power metal fan looking for another fun and enjoyable power metal CD for their collection is well enough served.

Axenstar is growing to one of Swedens better power metal bands with this record, but they still got bands like Lost Horizon, Hammerfall and Nocturnal Rites ahead of them.
Their first record was surprisingly good, with Thomas Erikssons great song-writing and and overall good performance from the band.
Before Far From Heaven the question was if Axenstar would be able to outshine their first record. Far From Heaven really is a solid power metal album with many good tracks and above all; the sound quality is way better. What is negative about the album is the production, which is weaker than before. Pelle Saether, the producer, and Axenstar have chosen to go with a softer style. The riffs are not as hard as before and the drums are far more in the background. I find this negative as I’m a fan of hard and heavy power metal, while this is somewhat too light.
The song-writing is still excellent and the melodies are similar too the ones on Perpetual Twilight. I don’t find them too similar – absolutely not – but you can still here its Axenstar playing. Still, Perpetual Twilight had better song writing and more really good tracks. But this record has some great songs too, of course. Abandoned, Blind Leading the Blind, Children Forlorn, Death Denied. All very excellent tracks and as good as the best from Perpetual Twilight, but Far From Heaven also got weak songs. Infernal Angel is for example their worst song so far and it’s a pity it would be the opener…
So, they did not manage to do a better record than the debut, but I’m still very satisfied with Far From Heaven. A very good release with many good tracks, but just too uneven and a somewhat weak production to be a real killer.

2002 - Perpetual Twilight. All great songs. Excellent songwriting, great riffs and melodies, you've got some good music right here. 2003 brings Far From Heaven, with a few less memorable tracks, but all in all a very good album. Not much changed from their first album, if we're going to be discussing lyrics. It was pretty much the same stuff with some twists here and there with more catchy melodies.
Now, 2005 gave us The Inquisition. I was looking for this album everywhere, and finally found it, hoping it would live up to my expectations. I took a look at it, started playing it, and immediately began to like it.
However, after a few tracks, I started to realize Axenstar did with this album what they did with Far From Heaven - it sounds very similar to there previous albums. Now, that's not exactly a bad thing, and I understand it's probably harder than I think to change your style of music, but a lot of the stuff sounded similar. The production quality is more or less the same - I found the vocals to be slightly nicer to listen to, myself.
The Fallen One is a decent opener, nothing incredible. Under Black Wings is another good song, still nothing superb. Most of the other tracks are good, but in my opinion, they're not as good or memorable as Perpetual Twilight's songs or even Far From Heaven's. The most notable tracks are Daydreamer, with a catchy chorus and great melody, and The Sands of Time, which is pretty nice to listen to. The Fallen One and Under Black Wings are other noteworthy songs, as well as Drifting.
There's really nothing new on this album, though in my opinion, it does feel like they tried to vary it up a little, mood-wise. The Inquisition is nothing excellent, nor is it bad by any means. Axenstar has great potential and is already making very good music, but they need to mix things up and, in my opinion, work on the production quality just a little more. While I do find the vocalist unique and easy to recognize, I think they need to work on how Magnus's voice sounds.
If you're looking for some escape from music like Rhapsody's tales of swords and dragons or Dragonforce's apocalyptic nightmares, check out Axenstar. It has the catchy, melodic music you want while still having good vocals and lyrics.

Axenstar's last release, The Inquisition, was a good album, but it wasn't their best, in my opinion. With the release of The Final Requiem, however, Axenstar's at their best. The vocals are powerful, the keyboards are noticeable and give the atmosphere as they always have, and the drums are again loud and fast, as are the guitars. Despite the somewhat consistent changes in the band's lineup, and Magnus 'Winterwild' Eriksson the only member from the first album left, the style thankfully hasn't changed much, mainly because Magnus does vocals, keyboards, and lyrics.
As soon as the album starts, you get a blast of power metal. The vocals start right away, and they sound just like you know them, if you've ever listened to Axenstar before. Magnus's voice is loud and clear, and while the production quality of his voice always seems odd in Axenstar's albums, it fits and works well. The lyrics are general power metal material, nothing new, but they're definitely not bad. Typical power metal lyrics. Every song is upbeat and strong. Several songs become instantly memorable (Final Requiem, Underworld, etc.), and the others may take a couple other listens to really get into or remember.
However, if you're looking for mindblowing, revolutionary power metal, Axenstar won't do it for you. The lyrics are what you'd expect out of power metal - fantasy, the stars, life, all that. The Final Requiem, however, is harder, faster, and all in all better than the previous albums. Through all twelve songs, from Final Requiem to Beyond The Lies, you don't get bored, and you feel like joining in with the vocals. Though some tracks still haven't gripped me like past tracks have - King of Tragedy, Scars, Enchantment, Far From Heaven, etc. - they may grow on me in time as those songs have.
Had Magnus Eriksson left the band, The Final Requiem may not have happened, and Axenstar may have been done for - at least, their style. If you like Axenstar, get The Final Requiem. You won't be disappointed. If you've never listened to Axenstar, check out either this album or Perpetual Twilight. Despite two of the members leaving just after The Final Requiem was released (two more joined shortly after), Axenstar has a great sound and if they can keep their current members in, they'll do very well for themselves. If we're lucky, their next release will be live.

Sweden’s power metal outfit, Axenstar, is back after five long years. Their last record, The Final Requiem came out in 2006, so fans have long been waiting on Aftermath, their fifth full length release. In the interim the band has replaced their drummer, one of their guitarists and their record label. Vocalist, keyboardist Magnus Winterwild has now added bass duties to his repertoire, at least for this record.
Aftermath seems to follow an apocalyptic lyrical theme. Kicking the album off with “Dogs of War” which barrels in with rivet gun drumming and a tasty galloping guitar riff. The song is heavy, and headbanging while still melodic. This track encompasses what the rest of the album offers; a blend of heavy hammering metal with soaring melodic highlights.
The band has already made two videos for the album, including one for “Tears of the Sun” which fires off with a wickedly delightful riff that makes you wanna pick up your guitar and rock. Then the rapid fire double bass kicks in, and you’re off to the races.
The title track, makes heavier use of keyboards, which were almost distracting, but still another solid track, dealing with the aftermath of nuclear war. The guitars and drum work propels the melody forward. The band shot a video for this one as well, which you can view below.
Joakim Johnsson’s guitar work on this record is at times brilliant, at times grandiose, and in places even beautiful. He really shines throughout the album.
One of the major flaws I’ve found with European power metal in recent years is that the technical prowess shines while the songwriting has suffered. Music is not memorable for technique but rather how the music resonates and stays with you. Axenstar has done a solid job of overcoming that on this record. The songs are catchy and memorable. Listeners of the genre will generally be pleased with what they hear. While there are some mediocre tracks mixed in, overall power metal fans can raise a toast.
Aftermath has been a long time coming and worth the wait. A grand way to kick off the new year.

“Where Dreams Are Forgotten” is the sixth album by Swedish power metal quartet “AXENSTAR” and is their first to be released under “Inner Wound Recordings”.
Power metal is one of my favourite metal genres; I love the energy, the melodies, the vocals, everything about power metal never fails to get me pumped up, and that’s exactly what AXENSTAR achieve from the very start of this album, “Fear” opens up “Where Dreams Are Forgotten” with speed and intensity, and sets the attitude for the album perfectly. What I love about this album is the diversity; frequently you will hear that signature power metal sound of harmonised guitar melodies and pretty ‘cheesy’ choruses, whilst surrounding all of the typical ‘happy’ sounding power metal genius, you also gets tastes of darker and moodier music, and AXENSTAR seem to blend the two attitudes well without causing too much musical conflict and confusion within a song.
“Inside The Maze” kicks off with a very catchy melody which slightly makes me think of bands like “HELLOWEEN” or “EDGUY”, this is a great song with a moody verse and a typical catchy power metal chorus along with some great riffing from Joakim and Jens. “My Sacrifice” is next and is one of the highlights of this album. It starts off with possibly my favourite riff on this album, when the drums come in under this main riff you cannot help but bang your head to its galloping aggressiveness! Some of the lead work in this song is pretty amazing too!
I love when a power metal band like AXENSTAR can showcase a lot of aggression along with that signature power metal ‘cheese’; It gives an album and/or band a lot more personality with the type of diversity shown here on “Where Dreams Are Forgotten”. I feel as if this album can easily reach my top 10 power metal releases this year; it is a brilliant well structured, well written, well recorded work of art and I urge you to not let this go without your attention, buy it and support AXENSTAR. I’m already eager to see what these guys do next.
