Is this a band, we can hardly speak of that with this Powerstorm, Kostas Falieros is Powerstorm. In the last century they were a band, but for different reasons, it was decided to quit. This happened in 2002, but the blood flows where it cannot go and in 2009 band leader Kostas Falieros felt the urge to come up with the first full album. But it must be said that this Greek musician has not chosen the easiest path. Instead, he almost single-handedly, Write the songs, made the arrangements, played not only the guitar parts but also the drums, bass and keyboards. He himself was already a talented guitarist from the start and that can be heard also he has singlehanded did the vocals. Indeed many hours were spend to get it done.

Let us go to the album itself, it is clear the man has many experiences in all facets, no wavering melodies and difficult passages, but just straight forward melodic power metal of fine level. Nice melodic, sensitive as well complete with a sense of drama and atmosphere. The CD sounds great, and here we have a decent album. The only thing that works to his disadvantage is that it all has been done many times before, so for originality you should not be here. If you are in for all the clichés in melodic power metal to relive it all once more than this is your chance. Personally, I therefore conclude that I am impressed with the craftsmanship of Kostas and his album definitely can be labeled as positive, but a classic one? No it goes a bit too far but it is definitely a good additional record to the total products out there.

POWERSTORM is basically a one-man-show and the exception to the rule concerning these musical projects. Kosta Falieros is behind the name Powerstorm and hails from a small county town of Greece, Kyveri. POWERSTORM was formed in 1995 and has released up to this day three demos and one full length album entitled “Act 1”.
The musical style that Kostas serves is pure power metal and I must say I was completely blown away by the first hearing; here we have to deal with an honest and talented musician, who manages to balance between song writing and performing-not to mention the production and programming, all of this is his work!
The effort, which I’m pretty sure was a painful and lonely sometimes road for the main man Kostas, certainly was worthy once this full length release has nothing to be jelous of any other album releases in 2011!
“Act1” contains ten tracks, all equable so much in style as much as quality, creativity and technic. Fast paced guitars, bombastic refrains and sophisticated solos all a part of the power metal recipe that Kostas got to “cook” quite delicately!
All guitars and vocals, bass and drums were played by him and the recordings took place in his private studio in Argos, a fact that gives extra credits to this release, once the production is almost perfect and does not give away the fact that POWERSTORM is unsigned still.
“Act 1” is all about the heart and musical soul of one man, who proves that artistic anxiety can be married to technicality, and that if soul and brains work close together can achieve almost anything!
In conclusion this is a surprisingly good material and must be purchased at once, especially if you are follower of the specific genre! Enjoy!
