Genialen, hymnischen Progressiv-Metal hauen uns JESTER'S FUNERAL auf ihrem ersten Longplayer um die Ohren. Ähnlichkeiten mit BLIND GUARDIAN sind unüberhörbar, dennoch gelingt es der Band stets ihre Eigenständigkeit zu bewahren. Der absolute Überhammer ist das fast 6-minütige epische "Pilgrim's Path"... und das werde ich mir jetzt gleich auch erst nochmal anhören!

Holla, now that's something! Germany's JESTER'S FUNERAL surely are no revelation in terms of originality, but if you are searching for an album that drives on straight ahead from the beginning until the end, then "QuickSilverLight" is yours.

The influences of METALLICA (the mentioning of this name alone is worth a punch in the face) and especially IN FLAMES in the guitar-work are evident throughout the whole CD and some tracks sound as if they already had been there before (especially with "To Fall Asleep" - a good copy of "Nothing Else Matters"), but I don't mind, because if a band is able to keep me up for one hour with straight Power Metal, is in my good books for sure. Musically there is no point of criticism, good technique and with Stefan Schmidt a vocalist, who could go through as little brother of James H. (from the first mentioned band).

From the sound-side, they also convince with a powerful and clean production, which leaves nothing to be desired. If you still have doubts, then check out tracks like the strong opener "Jester's Empire", "Time Bomb", "Private Demon", "Where Dark Deep Waters Flow" or the closing "Dorian". All of those that feel no urge to move your head, you are no Metal!

If the band manages to eliminate the too obvious influences and get some more originality into their sound, then the next album might already be the one to promote JESTER'S FUNERAL into Germany's top flight of Power Metal... and in terms of power they have passed the first mentioned band by far already...

Dies liegt einerseits an dem Aufbau des Albums, das sich gelegentlich ein wenig selbst ausbremst, andererseits daran, dass nach dem starken Anfang (4 Volltreffer aus 5 Songs) Erwartungen geweckt werden, die das restliche Material nicht halten kann - was nicht heißen soll, dass hier Durchschnitt geboten würde. Mit Ausnahme des überlangen "Infinity" und dem mit seichten Keyboard-Sounds unterlegten "Nebula" sind wirklich alle Tracks, einschließlich der abschließenden Klavierballade "Tomorrow", von hohem Niveau.

Zudem ist die Produktion, die das Riffing von Gitarrist Gerrit in den Vordergrund stellt, wirklich extrem druckvoll und wohl wenige Bands haben zur Zeit ein derart gutes Auge für Details, die einen Song spannend halten: Wenn sie den letzten Refrain des fantastischen "City Of Glass" mit Klavier- und Keyboardsplittern herauszögern oder "Of Ocean And Sky" mit einem bluesigen Outro versehen, beweisen JESTER'S FUNERAL, zu ganz Großem im stande zu sein.

Was bleibt unter dem Strich? Ein starkes Album, mit dem sich JESTER'S FUNERAL als eine der talentiertesten und vielversprechendsten deutschen Nachwuchs-Metalbands profilieren... Es gibt denkbar schlimmere Etiketten.

This band still sounds like demo/underground band, in general it's good performed music from early Metallica elements with many useful German Melodic Power things. Also this band likes to use Prog elements that varies the sound on this album very well.

Stefan Schmidt sang additional lead and backing vocals on Fading Starlight's 2002 "Lost" release. He procuded the same bands 2005 "The Crowbar Dance" EP in the Jester's Funeral's studio.

Frustrated over failing to find a record label for their fourth album, the band has decided to call it quits after mastering the album and putting it online for free download.
Nach den Alben "Labyrinth" und "QuickSilverLight", die der Band den Ruf einer der talentiertesten und vielversprechendsten deutschen Nachwuchs-Metalbands im Bereich Thrash / Power einbrachten, ist es nun mit Album Nummer drei an der Zeit, endgültig durchzubrechen. Die Frage, ob der Band dies mit "Shifting:Skywards" gelungen ist, kann jedoch nicht mit einem eindeutigen Ja beantwortet werden.
