CETI is officially formed in October 12th, 1989 by original Turbo singer Grzegorz Kupczyk as a side-project. Once he first left the band in 1990, he concentrated completely on his solo project. The name of the group, CETI comes from the name of the 1971 NASA program "Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence". The first album came out in 1989, entitled Czarna Róża, reaching high positions on radio charts. The band consisted on Kupczyk himself on vocals and initially taking bass duties as well, Maria Wietrzykowska on keyboards, Andrzej Łysów on guitars, Jacek Jabłoński on drums and Maciej Przybylski on bass.

Line-up changed for the first time, introducing drummer Marcin Krystek, who collaborated with the band on the recording of new songs for the second album Lamiastrata, whose release was preceded by many shows in their home country and some dates in Germany. A live recording including material from 2 concerts in Federal Republic of Germany and the Jarocin Festival in 1992 was put out in 1993 (Extasy ‘93), proving the efficiency of the group on stage.

Personal problems and musical differences between Andrzej Łysów and the rest of the band affected the result of the next album Rasizm, released in 1994, musically inferior from previous efforts – it eluded commercial success, with the exception of the song “Epitafium”, which became an instant hit in the Polish media, TV and radio, reaching the top of the charts.

More line-up changes followed in 1995, Waldemar "Valdi" Moder took guitar duties, while Marcin Sauter was introduced as new bassist. This new formation would offer shows during 6 months, conceiving the disco music approach title “Koko Dżambo”. Both latest additions were expelled from the band the same year.

In 1996 guitarist Przemysław Burzyński and bassist Bartek Urbaniak joined the band – however this line-up would concentrate on recording material for Kupczyk’s solo album W Imię Prawa, which was completely successful and well-received by critics and fans. The singer would put all attention on his promising solo career, making music for Television and headlining popular events in Poland.

It wasn’t until 2001 when the CETI project was reactivated, offered a contract by Oskar, which released Lamiastrata on CD outside Poland – the album received positive reviews from European magazines and sold out in Japan. The album would be later released in Western Europe, USA and South America by Dragonight. In September 2002, an EP entitled Prolog was released through Oskar to promote new material of the upcoming record Shadow Of The Angel, eventually released in April 2003. Some French dates followed.

In February 15th 2004, the band celebrated their 15th anniversary on stage; the show sold out, recorded on double live album and DVD. Shortly afterwards, Przemysław Burzyński presented his resignation, replaced by Bartek Sadura. The new line-up went on tour with Vader.

Since 2003, Kupczyk has put his attention on both solo career and CETI, taking part on other projects as Panzer X, going on tour with the band throughout Europe and working on new material like (...) Perfecto Mundo (...) and Ghost of the Universe - Behind the Black Curtain.
