"The sole album from this fantastic band is one of the best overlooked folk-progressive rock recordings of the late 6o's. This London-based group had just one actual British member, the rest of the musicians hailing from Norway, Australia, and Canada. This wonderful and truly fascinating album is a combination of strong original material, male-female vocal harmonies, deftly textured mixes of electric and acoustic guitars, tasteful orchestration and soaring bittersweet melodies. Unfortunately, the band broke up in late 1969 and soon after Lucas and Conway formed the rhythm section of Fotheringay. Rosen later played with Mogul Thrash and Hultgreen joined the band Sailor. This deﬁnitive edition has been expanded with many rare & unreleased tracks."
Flawed Gems

"Named because of the disperate musical backgrounds of its members Eclection comprised of, at the time, unknown musicians and left a solitary gem of a folk rock album as the only record of their career. Trevor Lucas, an Australian, had had some previous small scale success having established himself on the then flourishing folk circuit. Hultgren was a Norwegian, Rosen a Canadian and Male also an Australian. Conway was the only British member of the lineup and had worked as a teenager with Alexis Korner and was the last to join. Unusually for a British band they signed to Elektra Records and they themselves saw this as an achievement in itself. Indeed Elektra thought highly of the group and were disappointed that the breakthrough never came. They were undoubtedly talented and they fused their skills to produce an interesting and imaginative album drawing on both British and American traditions with an overall sound that could easily have been mistaken for being Californian. Their album is typical of the period being bright and breezy with optimistic lyrics and good female/male harmonies. They were live regulars of the period but never made any real breakthrough either by way of sales or fame. Kerilee Male's distinctive voice was a strong feature, being very prominent, and that at least brought them some press attention. She left immediately following the release of their album called simply Eclection to be replaced by afro-american singer Dorris Henderson. She had worked previously with John Renbourn on two of his albums. Guitarist Rosen was also succeeded by John "Poli" Palmer adding to the turmoil in the band. His stay was short lived as he quit a year later to join Family. Perhaps because of these three key changes the band never really filled their potential and folded soon afterwards. Lucas and Conway soon returned to music forming Fotheringay with Sandy Denny. Lucas was later to marry Denny and both of them either together or individually both took turns as part of Fairport Convention's ever changing lineup. Like Denny, Trevor Lucas is sadly no longer alive, dying in 1989. Conway had a spell with Jethro Tull and The Pentangle before completing another circle by joining... Fairport Convention. Hultgren changed his second name to Kajanus and achieved a modicum of success when he formed the pop group Sailor. Rosen was a member of the early lineup of Average White Band and also formed Mogul Thrash. Following the original band's split, Dorris Henderson had the tenacity to tour with a scratch band of musicians under the name Eclection during the 1970s but nothing came of it."
